Preggo Style.

As the belly expands I have to get more and more creative with my outfits. I finally bit the bullet and got some maternity jeans because the ones I had were just no longer working! Aside from that, I really want to spend a limited amount of money on maternity clothes! Heck, I'm going to be able to wear them for like 4 months and maybe never again!

With that being said I would prefer not to look like a scrub for the next 4 1/2 months.
I'm really trying to avoid the following:

I also have to keep in mind that we have 5 weddings this fall, not to mention all the accompanying bridal showers and rehearsal dinners AND I've got baby showers people!
So, I know I'm going to have to get creative and put some thought in to looking not only socially acceptable but CUTE! If only I could win the lottery and look like any one of these girls:

And then there's my preggo style icon:

Seriously, who would like to donate to the "Kristin Needs Cute Preggo Clothes Fund?"
Anyone?.....

 .....Bueller?

Here's what I'm actually looking at:

I like the idea of getting a classic "little black dress" that I can wear to multiple functions and then change up with different accessories and shoes. Way easier to get a $20 necklace than a $60 dress, right?

I like this one because it has the longer sleeves, which will be good for fall. I could wear it with pumps, boots, leggings, tights, I like the idea of having options.

I think this is cute for a summer shower.

I love, love, love this for one of the weddings. It's $130 which is more than I really want to spend, but how cute is it?! I may have to splurge.

I also love, love, love this dress. This would be a good one to transition from summer to fall.

So what do you guys think? You like? Not so much?
And, you mama's out there...what are your preggo wardrobe tips?

  1. Kourtney Kardashian has the best style. I have found that at first when you couldn't tell I was pregnant but I had gained weight that flowy things looked better on me. As soon as I popped though I now only wear tighter tops with maternity capris or maxi dresses. ASOS maternity has adorable things. I got super cute mint skinny jeans from there for a great price. Dress wise anything empire waist is super flattering and highlights the bump as well. I have loved showing off my bump! All of those dresses you picked I would totally wear. If we lived closer I'd have you come over and I'd show you all my favorites to wear! Haha.

  2. LOVe all of your dresses! So cute.

And if you don't mind rewearing dresses, the blue one could be your prego wedding dress for the summer season and therefore the 130 wouldn't bee that bad.

    You will look lovely though!

    xoxo

  3. Loooove that black dress and the striped dress! The black dress would be easy to switch up for a few different events.

Agree with Candace above - Asos has some amazing maternity pieces! They are moderately priced, as well. I would suggest buying maxis and empire waist dresses, though...instead of all maternity dresses. I've been doing that lately to get more use out of them. Check ebay too ;-)

  4. Oh I LOOOOOOOVE the last two dresses!!! SOOO cute. And you're right-- I would invest in a few dresses and change them up with jewelry and shoes/boots-- HOW fun!!

  5. LOVE that last one. Love the 2nd to last one too. I would get them, whatever makes you feel pretty during pregnancy is 110% worth the price tag I say.

  6. I think you will look good in anything! I have found that I love rocking maxi dresses! I found a long black Liz Lange maxi at Target for $30 and just a regular maxi that shows off my bump well! I also like tank tops and jeans/shorts for the summer! I love me some Nicole Ricci!

  9. So I'm not the best person to talk about maternity clothes on a budget(because I'm only 16 weeks and have spent probably $800 thus far), but if you have a Motherhood Maternity Outlet near you, they tend to have Pea in the Pod clothes on clearance. I found 2 $150 dresses for 50% of that are still on the Pea in the Pod website. There is nothing wrong with the items either.

Also, I have that polka dot dress and it's totally adorable and really comforable.

I'm jealous you're just starting to need new clothes...I'm only 16 weeks and have been in maternity clothes since around week 12. Most of my pre-preggo dresses still fit, but that's it.

  10. I've been doing a lot of dresses lately too! I found some cheap cotten ones at Kohls (surprising - i know!) and Target. I need to hit up Motherhood Maternity to find a little more formal ones for the weddings we have this summer. But the cotten dresses work good for showers, groom's dinners, summer outtings and paired with a cardigan for work!

Other than dresses, i've been rocking the maternity jeans/capris, along with many of my non-maternity blouses and cardigans. I'm struggling to not buy too much, but to also have shirts long enough.

I'm jealous you were able to hold out on maternity pants until week 18! I was wearing them by week 13 - and exclusively as of this week. (Tried wearing some regular dress pants with the button un-done. Every time I sat down they unzipped. Not so fun at work!).

  11. I think the striped one would be the best investment for you for sure!! I love that it can be easily transitioned into fall! It screams KRISTIN...

    50 times over!

  12. I totally feel ya on the whole not spending alot of moolah for clothes we only wear for 4 months! I picked up alot of my maternity clothes at Burlington (their selection is thin, but cheap), and JCP has alot of good cheap clothes. Also, Motherhood Maternity sale/clearance section online was pretty good. I'm almost done cooking our 2nd child and when you're at this point - those maxi dresses paired with cardigans/jean jacket my best friend! Tarjey also has alot of cute clothes, but they are mostly $30-$40 :(
Oh! and a Belly Band is amazing with the dresses... it gives so much support!

I would send you all of my clothes, but my hubs is crazy and wants a 3rd child! ;)

  14. i am currently 38 (eeks!) weeks pregnant and remember going through your dilemna! we had several weddings to attend this spring. i got a cute black dress similar to the one you picked and dressed it up with different accessories! worked great. it helped that the weddings were all with different groups of friends, so noone saw me in it twice ;)

  24. youll look great no matter what- dresses {long} were always my fav!

  25. I agree, Kourtney is the best dressed pregnant lady.ever. I love her syle. All of the dresses you picked out are great- the LBD will be a great investment piece for pregnancy. Maybe try to stick to classic pieces that you can hold on to in case you decide to have baby #2 sometime down the road...

  26. Since we'll both be big pregnant during the hot summer months, I tell ya what, I'm looking at a wardrobe full of tank tops, maxi skirts and sun dresses. And stick with cotton blends/jersey knit type fabrics. They breathe and stretch with the growing belleh :)

Also, spend the money and buy maternity. You won't regret it even if you don't ever wear them again. Being dressed comfortable once you start becoming UNcomfortable belly-wise, will be an investment. In your sanity and those around you ;p

My go-to store is Old Navy. Between prices and quality, I've never been disappointed. I will also "splurge" on occasion at Motherhood Maternity/Pea in the Pod.

But really, just be comfortable. That is my main advice :)

  27. Agree! Old Navy has a bunch of elastic waist normal skirts right now, and Target has a bunch of 'flowey' shirts that fit over my belly and look like they will fit for several more months.
