Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear.
Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us.
Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
I enjoyed this book, but I hate to say, I'm skeptical. Don't get me wrong, I believe in God and I believe in Heaven, I'm just not quite sure I 100% believe this story, though I want to.
If the boy's father and author of the book wasn't a Pastor and if there hadn't been SO many references from the bible trying to prove what Colton had seen I would be more apt to believe this.
After reading the book, I was curious if other readers felt the same. I found this super harsh and super negative article written for the Washington Post, but I found it super interesting. If you've read the book and are interested in hearing the "other side," read the article HERE.

It sounds super interesting... but I hear ya on being skeptical...
i keep hearing about this book, but i've passed everytime. i tried reading 90 minutes in heaven which is a really similar story, but sometimes i just want to hear the story and not all the preaching. like you, i believe in God and Heaven and don't discount their stories, but the way the story was written makes it difficult to enjoy.
My dad just gave this book to me to read, and I've been meaning to but haven't gotten around to it yet. I think I'll be a little skeptical reading it too.. we'll see :)
