Naked Weekend.

We have now tried two different potty training methods:
1. The "buy a potty and hope your kid just figures it out" method
2. The "naked all weekend" method

Both failed.

Over the past several months Kenley has showed pretty much every sign of potty training readiness and so we got her a potty and every now and then we'd put her on it, a couple times she went and we went nuts. We knew full well it was total luck and timing but we praised, rewarded, hooted and hollered anyways. And then, I got sick of diapers. Like really sick of them. I knew that putting Kenley on the potty only here and there wasn't going to get the job done and the alternative seemed super daunting. So we decided to do what I swore I would never do and attempt a naked weekend. It had worked for a couple of friends around Kenley's age so we figured "let's go balls to the walls."
We didn't leave the house. Our kid was naked. We set an alarm and put her on the potty every 10-20 minutes. We sang songs, read books and made potty time fun. We were encouraging and patient. We explained that we pee in the potty not on the floor. Kenley helped clean up her mess. We did everything we were supposed to.

We had ZERO potties in the potty and about fifteen potties all over the floor.

The only things we accomplished this weekend were teaching Kenley to remove her own diaper which she had done in the morning some time before peeing all over her bed AND completely ruining the excitement of the potty. She now hears the word "potty" and instantly freaks out.

But when life gives you lemons....or pee all over your carpet....you make lemonade. And our silver lining is that we learned despite all the "readiness" Kenley is not ready. She was just as surprised as we were each and every time she had an accident. So we will buy more diapers and work on repairing the potty damage we have done in hopes that when she is ready she isn't terrified.

Potty Training Update {& a giveaway!}

Thank you all for your potty training wisdom on my previous post. As I had mentioned, Kenley has shown great interest in all things potty - from following me in to the bathroom, to washing her hands and grabbing her diaper with a pouty face after she has gone. We realize that she is a little young but we figured why not get the ball rolling and approach this with a no-stress, no-pressure attitude? Since buying a potty two months ago, Kenley has peed in it twice. The first time being the second day we had it. Initially we thought she was super-baby but quickly realized that both instances were total coincidence. I am thrilled that she loves her potty and knows what "potty" means but obviously the key to potty training is teaching her to tell us BEFORE she has to go.

If I'm being completely honest, Jason and I have been pretty lazy about the whole thing. We put Kenley on her potty every night before bed, but beyond that it's totally random and really when we feel like it. It really is a process because each time we put her on the potty she has to get undressed, take off her diaper, sit on the potty {while we pray she is entertained for more than 2 seconds} and then we have to carry her to her room hoping she won't pee on anything and then diaper her and redress her.

Exactly the solution we needed. These diapers are not only adorable {I mean what little boy or girl wouldn't want Dora or Diego hanging from their booty?}, they are super absorbent {holding 25% more than the leading training pants}, and {in my opinion the best part} they pull up! Having that ease of sliding the diaper on and off has been a game changer for us. The whole potty process is so much quicker and easier and as a result Kenley is on the potty more which I know will help her in the long run. I also think that the Easy-Ups have a more underwear-like look and feel which will surely make the transition to big girl undies easier.

I know a lot of you mamas are in the same boat or are dangerously close to being in the same boat, so I am thrilled to be teaming up with Pampers to offer all my readers an AWESOME giveaway!

Potty Training

It's Tuesday and it's time for...

Here's what you do:
1. Write a post about ANYTHING baby {or pregnancy} related.
2. Add my button to your post.
3. Link your post with the link-up tool found at the end of all of my posts.
EASY PEASY!

As of today we will officially be potty training.

Lord help me.

The past few weeks Kenley has become very interested in her private parts, has been going WAY longer in between wet diapers and will go either into the bathroom or to her changing table if you ask her if she's gone potty - so it just seems like the right time.

I've heard all kinds of different methods of potty training but it seems as though the most popular is the 3-day no pants method. I know this has worked for some of our friends and I totally get how it could be effective {and fast} but I don't know if I have the patience to sit at home for three straight days with a crazy toddler in no pants. That's just me.

So our plan of attack is to take this nice and slow and stress free. We're in no rush but want to get the ball moving {the thought of no more diapers makes me giddy!} so we're going to get a potty chair and let Kenley explore it, practice sitting on it and somehow start equating it with her dirty diapers.

Kenley and I are going to go buy her chair today and I'm leaning towards this one...

But of course I can't possibly start this major process without asking my beloved blog friends who have already been in my shoes for ideas, tips & advice! My buddy Andrea sent me an AWESOME email with what worked for her and her daughter Avrie...but now I want to know...WHAT DID YOU DO? How did you potty train your little? What potty did you use? How long did it take? How much wine did you drink?

Let's have it....
