Living Like a Cavewoman

You might as well call me Wilma Flinstone because I am living like a cavewoman....
...about two months ago Jason and I cancelled our cable.

Originally, it wasn't intentional. We decided to make the switch from Comcast to DirectTV so we canceled our cable and set up an appointment to get new cable re-installed. What we didn't realize is that our townhouse association doesn't let us put satellites on our roof and our balcony faces the wrong direction to pick up the DirectTV (and Dish Network) signal.

After a couple of days living without cable we decided to just take some time off. If you know me, you know that this decision was a BIG deal! "Let's just live without cable" coming from the girl who had to get a second DVR to have space for all of the shows she recorded. Needless to say, I didn't think I'd survive without my DVR, but here we are two months later and I'm still breathing!

And, in fact, I kind of LOVE not having cable. Jason and I are so much more productive. We spend more time together in a capacity other than in front of the TV. Plus, we get so much done! Instead of vegging out on the weekends we actually clean the house, or go for family walks or get out and about. We've also been eating all of our meals at the kitchen table instead of in front of the TV...it's pretty wonderful!

We have a Playstation 3 and have both Netflix and Hulu subscriptions to keep us entertained and we also bought a connection for our iPad so that we can stream sporting events from the iPad to the TV. So we're not complete Cavepeople. I'm considering getting rid of Hulu though....I've only watched it once in the past two months and it kind of drives me crazy. What are your thoughts on Hulu?

Sometimes it's inconvenient and sometimes I do really miss some of the shows I used to watch but saving all that money every month and having all that extra time to spend with my family is really great. We both agreed that we will probably need to get cable before football season starts but at least for the summer we'll be without it and it's pretty liberating!

Girls Weekend

Holy macaroni! This weekend was amazing!
I'm excited to be linking up with Sami to recap it with all of you!
Jason left town on Thursday night to help my dad with his tournament in Denver
SO my weekend consisted of hangin' with my girls...
Yup, it was just me, Kenley, Bailey and my dad's dog Shiloh all weekend.

I HATE when Jason leaves town because I do not handle staying home alone well. I absolutely love having "me" time and I won't lie, having the house to myself is nice now and then, but once the sun goes down my anxiety is through the roof. But, for some reason, this time I was fine! Maybe it was all the fun stuff I had planned.

I figured if Jason is going to be gone, I am going to do all of my favorites things, SO...
....I ate take out Chinese.
....I watched A LOT of Gossip Girl /  Keeping Up With the Kardashians
....I got an Oreo McFlurry from McD's
....I went shopping for our family photo shoot coming up at Carter's, Baby Gap, Old Navy and Target
....I bought baby gifts for some expecting friends
...I had chips & salsa for dinner
....I brought Kenley and the dogs to the dog park
....I painted my nails
....I bought all of the necessary items to start Kenley on solid foods next week!
....I got new shoes and wore sandals for the FIRST time this year
....I drank my fair share of wine once Kenley was asleep
....of course I facetimed with Jason so he could see Kenny
--and--
I did a shit ton of laundry, went grocery shopping and got my oil changed. None of which are anywhere near my favorite things to do but I felt super productive and that is always a good thing!
PLUS, thanks to a little couponing, I saved $41.29 at Target!
HOLLA!

Even though all of that was amazing, there were definite highlights to this weekend:

On Friday morning, Kenley and I took our first BYOB {bring your own baby} Yoga Class at Blooma. The class that we took focused on restorative movements for mom and baby. We started with some infant massage and then went into yoga poses for mom which focused on restoring the core and relieving back pain from carrying around that bambino. It was absolutely the best $22 I've ever spent. I loved it! And so did Kenley. I want to start going on a more regular basis.
Kenley was definitely the class clown, shrieking and screaming {with glee} from the top of her lungs. It was such a fun and special way to bond with my baby, get in a good work out {yes, I was totally sore the next day} AND connect with other mamas. PLUS, it doesn't hurt that there's a Starbucks two doors down so that Kenley and I can have a coffee date after class.

On Saturday, my brother and I took Kenley down to campus for the Gopher football Spring Game. By now you all know what HUGE Gopher fans we are so I was beyond excited to bring Kenley to the stadium for the first time. We met up with our friends Pat & Nicci and their two daughters and had a great time.
It was a BEAUTIFUL day {finally} and Kenley did great. It was really, really special to spend the day with my brother and my baby girl at one of my favorite places on Earth.

Sunday, I FINALLY got to find out the gender of Baby Roe!!! I know it's hard to believe, but I DID NOT know the gender before the party. It nearly killed me and Carolyn but I am so happy that she kept the secret because finding out with her family and closest friends was so special.
Kenley and I both guessed that Baby Roe was a boy, so we rocked our blue and Kenley appropriately matched the "Waddle it Be" theme with her blue duck jammies.

I was absolutely thrilled to tears {literally, I actually cried} to find out that Jake & Carolyn are expecting a LITTLE BOY! I could not be more excited for them and I cannot wait to meet my little Beebo and start arranging his marriage to Kenley.
see....tears!

Our weekend didn't end there, my mom and step-dad came home from Arizona on Sunday and are here to stay through the fall! I am SO happy to have my mom home, I can't even tell you! So clearly, I had to meet them for dinner! We went to Redstone and it was so wonderful.
Seriously, so so so so so happy to have them home! Damn you snow birds.

And now it's Monday, but I'm not too mad because my hubby gets home this afternoon.
I cannot wait to see him!

I hope you all had wonderful weekends as well!

Weekend Recap: Date, Dance, Babies & Beyonce

happy monday....not!
I thought not working on Fridays would make the weekends so much longer, but it doesn't, they still fly by in a flash.

It also doesn't help when your stupid cell phone decides not to charge and instead die overnight so your alarm doesn't go off. YUP! Woke up at 7:15 this morning....and hour and fifteen minutes later than I wanted to. While the extra sleep was nice, I got screwed out of my morning with Kenley causing me to leave the house in tears, great start to the week.

Anyways, today I'm linking up with Sami to share our weekend!

____________________________________________________________________________________________________

I've been a little mopey lately because I've been missing my husband. No, he hasn't gone anywhere and in fact we are probably together more now than we were before Kenley was born. But as it turns out, having a baby changes your relationship and causes you to work a little harder at it. Anyways, after feeling like we'd never have "us" time ever again, Jason planned a date night for us which was completely wonderful.
We went to Wildfire for dinner and they just so happened to have my FAVORITE white by the bottle! And then we saw Silver Linings Playbook which we both LOVED! One of the best movies I've seen in a long time and I think all four acting roles deserve the Oscar. After the movie we picked up our little pumpkin, went home and watched our wedding video...it FINALLY came and I have to say it was totally worth the wait. He did an incredible job of capturing every little detail! It was so much fun reliving our day and seeing things that neither of us had seen that day or things we had forgotten!

Saturday morning I woke up with quite the wine headache but had to power through for an early morning eye appointment, an eye appointment that has been about 4 years in the making. Immediately afterwards, I made a pit stop at Starbucks {gotta rack up those reward points} and was on my way to cheer on my sister and her HS dance team in the Section Finals. You may remember last year that they were runner-ups in the State Kick Competition (and my sister was only a Freshman!)
This year, sadly, they didn't qualify for state in either category, but they danced great and I couldn't be more proud of my baby sister!

Saturday afternoon we met up with some friends for a multi-baby play date. It was so fun seeing our buddies and having all of our kids together. It was really refreshing to spend some time with other parents, I am pretty much the first of my close girlfriends to have a baby and while I absolutely adore my friends, it was nice to be around people who get it and who are going through all the same things we are. We attempted to get all of the kids together for a group picture, but as you can imagine with kids ranging from age 2.5 months to 5 years-old, we had a pretty hard time. This is the ONLY picture I have of all 7 kids:
 Ha! We tried.
And, yes, my child is missing a sock...apparently she's going to be "that kid."

We got home at about 9pm on Saturday, and me and Kenley were POOPED! Playing with all those little kids sure takes it out of ya. We were both in bed and asleep by 9:30 and didn't wake up until 8:45 the next morning! MY BABY SLEPT FOR 11 STRAIGHT HOURS! Which means I slept for 11 straight hours! BLISS you guys! Total and complete bliss! Kenley has been a pretty great sleeper since day one, but this is just insane. And, she woke up just as happy as can be.

And of course, last night, we watched the Super Bowl. We went to our friends Colin & Sharisse's and met up with the beeb and her hubby Jake. It was a good game {thanks to the power outage} but all I really cared about was BEYONCE! Damn that woman! I been obsessed with B since the early DC days...I have all of their (and her) albums and have seen both DC and Beyonce in concert. She is SO talented, beyond gorgeous and down-to-earth. I just adore her and I think she totally rocked the halftime show!

Best half time since Britney & NSYNC! Am I right?

I hope you all had great weekends!
Off to power through another week of work.

Top Ten...Disney Movies

I will openly admit that I am one of those weirdo adults who has an inappropriate love for animated Disney movies. They are timeless and I loved them growing up and have yet to grow out of them. Now that I have a baby am I BEYOND excited to introduce her to all of the amazing movies.

This week's Top Ten Tuesday topic is animated Disney movies!

#10.
101 Dalmatians
Released in 1961.
Fun Fact: During the "Twilight Bark Scene" (ya know where they're alerting each other of the lost puppies) a bunch of the Lady and the Tramp characters can be seen in the pet shop window.

#9.
Lady and the Tramp
Released in 1955
Fun Fact: Walt Disney gave his wife a dog wrapped in a hat box, and used the same idea in the movie.

#8.
Oliver and Company
Released in 1988
Fun Fact: This movie took just over two and a half years to complete and consisted of a staff of over 300 people.

#7.
Peter Pan
Released in 1953
Fun Fact: The movie doesn't use any of the original dialog from J.M. Barrie's play.
also...Tinkerbell is my all time favorite Disney character.  :)

#6.
Bambi
Released in 1942
Fun Fact: Two fawns were donated to Disney for the animation of the movie so the artists could study their movements and behavior. They were appropriately named Bambi and Faline, and when they were full grown were released in nearby Griffith Park.

#5.
Princess and the Frog
Released in 2009
Fun Fact: This was the first traditionally (2-D) animated Disney movie in five years.

#4.
Cinderella
Released in 1950
Fun Fact: When Cinderella is singing "Sweet Sweet Nightingale" three bubbles form to make a Mickey Mouse head.

#3.
Beauty & the Beast
Released in 1991
Fun Fact: Beauty and the Beast was the first ever animated movie to be nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award. This was before there was an animated category.

#2.
The Little Mermaid
Released in 1989
Fun Fact: 80% of the film required some sort of special effect like shadows, schools of fish swimming, bubbles and storms.

#1.
Aladdin, The Lion King & Finding Nemo
I know, I know I am totally cheating but I literally agonized over which of these movies to put first and I changed my mind like 10 times. I even asked myself "If these three movies were in front of you right now, which would you watch?" Wanna know my answer to myself? "I would have someone else choose for me."
No joke.
So...yes, I have three favorite Disney movies.

Aladdin
Released in 1992
Fun Fact: Aladdin became the highest grossing animated movie at the time with $200 million internationally.

The Lion King
Released in 1994
Fun Fact: Over 1 million drawings were created for the movie and it was originally titled King of the Jungle.

Finding Nemo
Released in 2003
Fun Fact: Bruce the shark was named after what Steven Spielberg named the mechanical shark used in Jaws.

What is your favorite of all time?

this weekend

This weekend was a pretty quiet one, which was really nice.

It started off with Kenley's TWO MONTH check up at the doctor.
Can someone please explain to me how it is that my baby will be two months old tomorrow? Crazy.

Friday night, Jason and I went to my work's holiday party at a bar/bowling alley down the street from my office. It was a really fun night and I even walked away with a trophy....for "The Best Worst Bowler." Yup, my whoppin' score of 77 sent me home with this bad boy.

Saturday, me and Kenley were both feeling out of sorts and since Jason had plans with his brothers, Ken and I spent the entire day in our jammies and on the couch, which aside from feeling crappy was amazing. Thanks to Netflix I started watching Friday Night Lights. I know so many people who were obsessed with this show and I just never got into it...well I'm in to it now. I watched almost the entire first season this weekend and am itching to keep going.

Sunday, I still wasn't feeling the best so it was another low key day. We were able to make it out of the house to go grocery shopping and that was about it. My mom is in town (hooray!), so she came over for dinner and to watch the Golden Globes. I thought Tina & Amy were amazing hosts but I was a little bummed because I have seen almost NONE of the movies this year. I LOVE award season so every year I try and see as many nominated films as I can, but obviously I'm a little restricted this year. Hopefully I can get out and see at least a few movies before the Oscars. But who cares about that....we all know the only reason any of us watch these shows is to see what the celebs wear. I thought it was a pretty impressive red carpet this year, but there were three gorgeous ladies who really stood out to me:
Hayden, Taylor and Jessica get my "Best Dressed" votes! I love all three of these dresses and thought the ladies accessorized them perfectly.

Who was your fashion fave from last night?
